Transition Ipswich

Transition Towns is about using our collective talents and unique local knowledge to make our community more resilient to the growing social pressures of Peak Oil and Climate Change. Many towns around the country are now well on their way to putting into practice a local energy descent plan and they look like they're having a pretty good time as well.

The first meeting of Transition Ipswich was held on 16th October 2008, attended by about 25 people. We had a presentation from John Taylor (see below) and then had a lively discussion about what Ipswich would need to be like in 20 years time in order to be able to cope with Peak Oil and Climate Change. Volunteers also came forward to form a steering committee.

Transition Ipswich had a stall at the Ipswich Green Fair on 29th November to promote awareness of Peak Oil and Climate Change, and to tell people about Transition Ipswich. We gave out quite a number of leaflets to interested people.

Getting Involved

We're aiming to have an event next Spring (2009). Have a look of our list of things to do towards this? Would you put your name to one or more of these?

We now have a discussion group on Yahoo! Groups. This allows us to share ideas, suggestions, news, plans, etc. and to discuss them online. If you're not already a member of the discussion group and would like to join, click here to join.

Earlier this year the The Transition Handbook was launched, and Caroline Lucas MEP recorded a message in which she describes the Transition movement as “the most exciting, most hopeful, most inspirational movement happening in Britain today”. Watch the video - very inspiring!!

There is a Transition East Anglia discussion group for sharing news and announcements from Transition groups from around Eastern England (Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, & Hertfordshire).
